I never planned on starting a travel business. I planned on taking pictures.

For the past few years, photography has been my main gig — and somewhere along the way, it turned into a lot of travel. Shoots in new cities, destination sessions, trips built entirely around getting the right light in the right place. I started packing a suitcase almost as often as I packed a camera bag.

Here’s the thing, though: I’d been the “trip person” long before any of that. Ask anyone I’ve traveled with — I’m the one who ends up planning it. Flights, hotels, the actual itinerary, the “wait, do we need a visa for this” research. It was never a job, it was just what I did, because I liked doing it and I was apparently pretty good at it.

So when photography started pulling me toward more and more travel, the two things just… collided. I was already researching destinations for shoots. I was already the default planner for every trip I was part of. At some point it stopped feeling like two separate things I happened to do, and started feeling like one obvious next step: why not actually do this for people?

That’s where Compass & Sunset came from.

Right now, the travel planning and the photography live as two separate things I do — but that’s not really the long-term plan. I’d love to eventually bring them together: helping plan the trip and being there to capture it, so the whole experience — the planning, the trip itself, the photos you’ll actually want to look at afterward — comes from one place, built by someone who cares about all of it.

For now, I’m focused on the planning side: getting to know what you actually want out of a trip, handling the parts that are more stressful than fun, and making sure the details come together the way you pictured them. If the travel-and-photography combo ends up being part of your trip down the line, even better.
